Empowering Educators on the Path to National Board Certification: My Role as a PGCEA/NEA Jump Start Facilitator

In my role as the Prince George's County Public Schools National Board Teacher Program coordinator, I am dedicated to providing unwavering support to teachers on their journey toward achieving national board certification. Recognizing the critical importance of professional development in mastering every facet of the program, I actively engage in continuous learning. This summer, I seized a valuable opportunity to attend a collaborative event in partnership with the Prince George's County Educators' Association (PGCEA) and the National Education Association (NEA). This experience has further fueled my commitment to a mission that resonates deeply with my passion – offering steadfast assistance to my fellow educators as they embark on the path to National Board Certification.

Seven accomplished National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCTs) from Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) and NBCTs representing various regions of our county had the honor of joining me at the NEA Jumpstart Conference. This conference was a dynamic platform for sharing invaluable best practices, engaging in insightful discussions about effective strategies, and establishing a robust support network dedicated to NBCT candidates. The experience was both enlightening and rewarding, offering me the chance to collaborate with my peers and gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse support mechanisms in place for NBCTs, as well as how their contributions are acknowledged throughout the county.

My role in supporting educators on their journey to National Board Certification exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration, mentorship, and a shared commitment to educational excellence. As we continue to empower educators in Prince George's County to guide their peers through the certification process, we anticipate a future where every student benefits from the expertise and dedication of National Board-Certified Teachers.
